Chappell urged selectors to overlook Marsh for the upcoming Test series against Pakistan after failing to solidify his place in the national side since debuting in 2011.

Marsh could be set for a comeback to the Test arena after recovering from a broken finger suffered in the first Test against South Africa.

But Chappell is having none of it and said he had “drawn a line” through Marsh’s name a long time ago.

Slater disagreed.

"If Shaun Marsh had left the side with another hamstring problem - this on-going issue - I would probably think the injury's going to keep re-occurring," retired 74-Test opener Slater said on Sky Sports Radio.

"But because it's a broken finger, it's a little different."

Chappell was adamant Marsh should be omitted from selection stating his inconsistency was too much of a gamble.

"You can't have fellas injured all the time," Chappell told Adelaide radio station 5AA on Tuesday.

"I reckon he's the sort of fella who loses confidence fairly quickly.

"I would have moved on from Marsh, especially with these young guys doing some good stuff."
