About 2000 fans gathered in the carpark of Sydney's Liverpool McDonald’s, dancing on car bonnets.

However, celebrations turned ugly, with a police officer allegedly assaulted by a 24-year-old man.

The man was tasered by police and arrested after authorities were forced to close Orange Grove Rd.

Meanwhile, a street brawl erupted in the Sydney suburb of Tempe with about 30 people reportedly involved in the incident.

Pepper spray was used to control the crowd with two men and a woman taken away in handcuffs.

Those arrested were later released by police on strict conditional bail.

The incidents followed Tonga’s controversial loss to England.

Tonga were trailing 20-0 in the final ten minutes before three quick tries had them within reach of an epic victory.

In the final seconds, Tonga forward Andrew Fifita looked to have had the ball stripped by an England player before regathering and scoring a try.

Referee Matt Cecchin ruled Fifita knocked the ball on and did not send the play to the video referee for review.

“The decision is correct for me and that is he’s affecting a tackle and there was no indicator he was stealing the ball,” Referees boss Tony Archer told Fairfax.

“It’s a loose carry, knock on, the referee called it on field.

“There needs to be a deliberate intention to steal the ball, he’s affecting the tackle as his arm slides down the attacker’s arm.”
