Hearts across the country melted when Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge invited injured captain Bob Murphy on stage to give the club legend his premiership medal after the side’s grand final win over Sydney, the club’s first in 62 years.

Murphy was beside himself with gratitude as he and Beveridge embraced on stage, with the 34-year-old considered by many as the heart and soul of the club.

And while Murphy has been wearing the medal since Saturday afternoon, former Bulldogs assistant coach and three-time premiership player Cameron Mooney reckons he will give it back to his coach.

“My personal opinion would be that Bob has been wearing it and that’s fantastic, but I think he’ll eventually just give it back,” he said on SEN.

“I think he’ll go ‘Mate, I’ve worn it for a few days and I’ve absolutely had a ball, thank you so much, but this is yours.”

Unlike the NRL which gives all squad players a premiership ring and not just the players who take part in a grand final win, the AFL only gives medals to those who feature on the big day.
