Hasler is contracted for 2017 but his future after that remains unclear with Canterbury supremo’s unhappy with the team’s performance this year.

Hasler has taken the club to two grand finals during his five-year-tenure, however with the Bulldogs chasing their first premiership since 2004, the pressure is on to perform.

The team lost its last four matches of 2016 to bow out in the opening week of the finals.

“There is going to be a board meeting on Friday and that is the main purpose of the meeting, to discuss Des Hasler’s contract extension,” Canterbury chief Raelene Castle told NewsCorp.

“The truth of the matter is that we are still in negotiations with Des and his management and there has been no final decisions made on anything.”

The board is reportedly keen on making some changes to Hasler’s contract relating to performance.

Hasler won two titles while mentoring Manly and is presently on about $1.2 million a season.

Should discussions break down, Dean Pay and Mick Potter have reportedly been discussed as possible replacements.
