Eels enforcer Tepai Moeroa wants “payback” for a “bashing” his side copped last year from Manly when they face off at Brookvale in Sunday’s season-opener.
The Eels downed an injury-ravaged Manly 22-10 in Round 7 last year, but taking the two points did not suffice the physical hurt dished out to his side on the Northern Beaches.
"They bashed us last year when we played at Brooky so hopefully this year we can bring some aggression and see how we go," the 21-year-old told nrl.com.
"There's always talk about forward packs trying to get on top of the other forward pack and it will be a good contest for us.”
Manly enter the match as favourites despite Parramatta fielding an arguably stronger side.
Sea Eagles recruits Brian Kelly (centre), Curtis Sironen (back row), Lloyd Perrett (back row) and Akuila Uate (wing) are all set to make their regular season debuts for the club but the Eels enjoy the better recent form having just missed last year’s finals after being stripped 12 points for salary cap breaches.
With everything to play for, Moeroa said his side could not to wait to unleash the pain on Manly in his side’s opening match of the season.
"We've got the arsenal to make a big statement and hopefully we can back it up,” he said.
"Especially after last year where they came out and absolutely bashed us in the middle, I think it's time to give them a bit of payback."
