Arguably the most touching gesture in AFL Grand Final history has taken another inspiring turn.
Hearts around the nation melted as Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge took off his premiership medal from around his neck before hauling club legend Bob Murphy onto an MCG stage to present injured captain with it.
It was a fitting tribute to Murphy who is widely considered the heart and soul of the club, capping celebrations of ending the Bulldogs’ 62-year premiership drought.
Murphy wore the medal for a few days before handing it back to his coach.
“He couldn’t keep it (the medal),” Beveridge said at the club’s awards night on Wednesday.
So what does the coach do?
He donates the medal to the club museum of course, which will most likely hang in front of a photo of the pair embracing in the history-making moment.
Beveridge said while Murphy appreciated the gesture, he felt he could not keep the medal.
All class, gentleman.
