Andy Murray has withdrawn from Toronto’s Rogers Cup citing the need for rest following his Wimbledon triumph earlier this month.
The world No.2 is a three-time Rogers Cup champion and has not missed the Canadian event since his first appearance in 2006.
Murray said he was disappointed at having to pull out and that he hoped to return next year fitter than ever.
“I always look forward to coming to Canada and it’s the first time I’ve missed the tournament, the guys there do a great job and always look after the players,” Murray said.
“My body needs some recovery time after reaching the latter stages of tournaments over the past few months.
“I’m sorry to my fans in Toronto but I look forward to being back in Canada next year.”
The eight-day tournament commences July 23.
