It was another shortened round in the NRL, but the action still came thick and fast. Starting on Friday night, the Wests Tigers produced one of the upsets of the season. The Tigers, missing skipper Robbie Farah and inspirational prop Aaron Woods due to Origin duty, steam-rolled reigning premiers South Sydney 34-6.

Saturday night saw the Sydney Roosters snatch a late come from behind win over the Warriors 25-21 in New Zealand. Returning from a ten-week injury rest, controversial centre Blake Ferguson scored the winning try in the final minute, giving the tricolours a much needed win.

Sunday afternoon footy saw the Gold Coast Titans out-muscle the Bulldogs 28-14 on the "Goldie". The Titans scored three unanswered second half tries to run away with the game and jump into the top eight for the first time this year. The round concluded with the Parramatta Eels pipping an understrength Melbourne Storm 26-22 in a controversial finish in Monday night football at AMMI Park.

We are now more than halfway through the season and only four points separate fifth from 12th, leaving no team safe in the top eight. However, based on recent form the race for the minor premiership could be considered a three-horse race between the Broncos, Cowboys and Dragons, with the two Queensland teams equal on 22 points at the top and the Dragons a further two points adrift.
