Michael Clarke says he did not trust the Australian dressing room after countless leaks to the press over the past decade.
The revelations come as Australia prepare to name their squad for the first Test against South Africa next Thursday in Perth.
Following the release of his book, My Story, in which he documents tensions with former team mates including Shane Watson, Mitchell Johnson and Simon Katich, Clarke said he did not have trust that what was said among players would remain between the team.
“These days, I don’t think anything stays in the change-room,” Clarke said.
“We would have a team meeting and the next day it would be in the paper.
“I didn’t trust ... my assumption was that anything we say in that room, assume it’s going to get out.
“That was the case through my whole career, from my very first Test match to 115 Test matches later.”
